Abstract

The anatomical, chemical and general characterization of Pterodon pubescens and Vochysia thysoidea wood, are the purposes of this study. The P. pubescens wood had a small presence of axial parenchyma, a large presence of pores and distinct growing rings. The fibres are short, kight with thick walls. The vessel element are relatively broad. The V. thyrsoídea wood had an abundant axial parenchyma, a large presence of pores and indistinct growing rings. The ftbres are short with relatively thin walls and wide lumeu. The vessels are rare in number and broad. Both woods present relatively high values of extratives. The P. pubescens wood presents a high percentage of lingnin. This wood could be used in several areas of wood tecnology. Future studies will be necessary to select the utilization area. The gun present in V. thyrsoidea wood deserves attention.
