Crescimento e dinâmica de Araucaria angustifolia (Bert.) O. Ktze. em fragmento de Floresta Ombrófila Mista

Abstract

Com o intuito de se conhecer os processos de dinâmica e crescimento da Araucaria angustifolia (Bert.) O. Ktze., foi avaliado o comportamento das variáveis número de árvores.ha-1, diâmetro médio, área basal.ha-1 e volume.ha-1 da espécie ao longo de oito anos consecutivos. Foram utilizadas medições de parcelas permanentes instaladas em um remanescente de Floresta Ombrófila Mista, localizado em Caçador – SC, que possui araucárias de grandes dimensões e sub-bosque ocupado por taquaras. Para tanto, avaliaram- se duas hipóteses: i) a produção e o crescimento das variáveis tendem a se manter estáveis ou a diminuir ao longo do tempo e; ii) o recrutamento de novos indivíduos é baixo ou inexistente. Os resultados obtidos demonstraram redução no número de árvores, na área basal e no volume em função da mortalidade e da ausência de ingressos no período. Verificou-se um acréscimo médio de cerca de 3 cm no diâmetro médio, variando de 75,9 cm a 78,6 cm, sendo o incremento periódico anual (IPA) médio de 0,33 cm.ano-1. A área basal média teve um decréscimo de 4,80 m2.ha-1, variando de 32,7 m2.ha-1 a 27,9 m2.ha-1. A produção do volume médio por hectare teve uma redução de 78,4 m3.ha-1 com um IPA negativo de 9,8 m3.ha-1.ano-1. Diferenças estatisticamente significativas foram detectadas principalmente em função de eventos climáticos que elevaram a taxa de mortalidade no terceiro e sexto ano de medição.

In order to understand the dynamics and growth processes of Araucaria angustifolia (Bert.) O. Ktze., this study evaluated the behavior of the following variables: number of trees, diameter, basal area.ha-1 and volume. ha-1 of this species over eight consecutive years by the measurement of permanent plots established in a remnant of Araucaria Forest, located in Caçador - SC, which presents large individuals of A. angustifolia and an understory occupied by bamboos. Therefore, two hypotheses were evaluated: i) growth and yield of the variables tend to remain stable or decrease over time and ii) recruitment of new individuals is low or nonexistent. The results show a reduction in the number of trees, in average basal area and stand volume per hectare due to mortality and absence of natural regeneration. There was an average increase about 3 cm in diameter, ranging from 75.95 cm to 78.57 cm, and the mean periodical annual increment (PAI) of 0.33 cm.year-1. The average basal area decreased by 4.80 m2.ha-1, ranging from 32.75 m2.ha-1 to 27.95 m2.ha-1. Average volume per hectare decreased by 78.38 m3.ha-1 with a negative PAI of 9.8 m3.ha-1.year-1. Statistically significant differences were noted mainly in response to weather events that have raised the rate of mortality in the third and sixth years of measurement.
