Estudos ecológicos tratando em isolado as espécies de Gnamptogenys e Pachycondyla, são necessários para se estabelecer quais fatores condicionam a distribuição destas.; The increasing use of ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) for monitoring and in inventory programs results in a greater amount of sampling material, with financial limitations and lack of experts to make the taxonomy of this group. I looked forward to overcoming these problems through the analysis of the effort of the TEAM Project protocol, using the concepts of taxonomic sufficiency, rarefaction and sample dilution, applied to the randomization test of Mantel, to verify the autocorrelation among groups of samples. The ants were identified to genus and the individuals of Pachycondyla and Gnamptogenys to species. The aim of the study was to determine the minimum effort necessary to obtain an appropriate inventory of these taxa, evaluating the minimum number of samples and the maximum dilution to detect them without reducing the viability of the data, and also, to determine the effect of the environmental variables over the taxocenoses. In a continuous primary forest area, during October 26th and November 3rd, 2003, during the dry season, I sampled ants and other invertebrates in 6 plots distributed in 33,000 ha. Each plot was 1 km2 and in each one, 4 transects of 100 m were surveyed. Using Winkler and pitfall traps 10 sub-samples were collected in each transect, separated 10 m from each other. The environmental variables (volume of litter, percentage of sand, temperature and pH of the soil) utilized were not enough to explain the distribution of the species studied. Apparently the number of species in a group of samples is not the only determinant condition to proceed in the dilution of the samples. It is desirable that the analyses proceeded in this study can be repeated with a greater number of samples of this same protocol. Protocols oriented to a group that encompasses a larger number of species can have amostral mistakes because of the distinct ecological requirements of the species involved. Isolated ecological studies encompassing Gnamptogenys and Pachycondyla are necessary to establish those factors that are related to the distribution of these species.

Ciclagem de fósforo e suas variações em uma floresta madura da Amazônia central; Transformation of phosphorus in soil and its temporal variation in a mature forest of central Amazonia
Mais estudos serão necessários para permitir um melhor entendimento da dinâmica do P nos solos e assim permitir a construção de modelos de ciclagem de P para florestas tropicais maduras.; Little is known about phosphorus (P) variations tropical ecosystems due to shortage of soil P information and standardized methods for the quantification of cycling. The theoretical model of P cycling (Walker and Syers, 1976) suggests that the relationship between the contents and form of this macronutrient is closely linked to the stage of soil weathering, with this acting on the transformation of primary minerals (calcium phosphate) in other forms of P used by the biota or occluded in the soil; such as adsorbed in the surface of secondary minerals (Fe and Al), and P lost through leaching. The Hedley fractionation method provides a comprehensive assessment that has been widely used for P research. Aiming to quantify the flow P, soil samples were collected in the Reserva Florestal Adolpho Ducke in Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil, in five randomly selected plots. We investigate the forms present in soil and litter and the production of litterfall and its relation to P fractions during the transition between wet and dry season. This study suggests that there is a strong temporal variation between inorganic and organic forms of P, especially in the more stable fractions (NaOH). Production of litterfall indicate that the more stable fractions are strongly related NaOH and HCl to the dynamics of the fractions in the soil, through the entry of P.. This study is a pioneer as the cycling of P in soils of central Amazonia. Others studies are necessary to improve our understanding of the temporal dynamics of P in tropical soils.

; This study deals with the changes in the administrative and operational Federal Conservation Units (FCUs) from the creation of the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), created by Law 11.516, of August 28, 2007, as a local authority under the Ministry of Environment and a member of the National Environment - SISNAMA (Law 6.938/81). These changes meant, among other things, the breakup of the institutional arrangement based on political division of the federation and decentralized state by superintendents, existing since the time of the Brazilian Institute for Forestry Development - IBDF (1967-1989), being held by the Brazilian Environment and Renewable Natural Resources - IBAMA, while he was responsible for managing the FCUs until 2007. Thismodel was replaced by a more centralized hub and implemented by ICMBio FCUs that initially tied directly to the central body without the mediation of regional structures. The federal conservation units have undergone numerous management bodies from the Park Service's ministry of agriculture to the boards of IBAMA and more recently ICMBIO. The objective was to critically analyze the changes introduced by ICMBIO compared to previous models, mainly deployed for the management of the Brazilian Institute of Environment - IBAMA (1989-2006). Analyzing the spatial rearrangement of institutional hierarchies to which local governments are subject of FCUs and whose recent modifications are justified because they offer better conditions for the implementation of these reach their goals of the law that established the National System of Conservation Units - SNUG (Law 9.985/2000). We analyzed the policies of public administration in Brazil focused on environmental issues, especially its effects on the management of FCUs and management models adopted over time and space, through the institutions initially charged with the responsibilities of managing FCUs up the latest IBAMA and ICMBIO. The creation of ICMBIO also represented significant changes in geopolitical arrangement and organizational management of FCUs. IBAMA maintained a decentralized structure which followed the outline of geopolitics federal and state superintendents based on where each UC was administratively linked to a particular state oversight and technically one of the national finalistic boards. Moreover, many FCUs have areas that are located in more than one state of the federation and therefore cover more than one jurisdiction. When created, ICMBio showed a pattern highly concentrator administration since ceased to exist intermediary bodies between the UC and the central administration. However, it is noticed that the concentrated structure ICMBio gradually decentralizing comes up with the creation of the Regional Coordination - CR and more recently the Centers for Integrated Management - NGI. Another initiative that also points to a move towards decentralization has been the official recognition of Mosaics of Conservation.
