The objectives of this research were to study the effects of four initial densities (2000, 4000, 8000 and 25150 plants/ha) and three site classes (site index 10.2, 13.5 and 16.8 m of dominant height at age seven) on basal area (G) and volume per hectare (V) for native stands of bracatinga ( Mimosa scabrella Benth.) in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba, Brazil. The data set came from permanent sample plots of a density trial established in a random blocks design. These plots were measured at ages 4.1, 5.1, 6.3, and 7.6 years of age. The effects of initial density and site on basal area and volume per hectare were verified through graphics and analysis of variance followed by the Tukey test when necessary. The initial density of 4,000 plants/ha generated the highest values of basal area and volume in the last ages of measurement. The basal area/ha did not sufered significative effects of site at any one of the measurement ages, while volume/ha was affected by this factor (site) until the age of 6.3 years.

This study was about the decreasent of the costs of forest road transport, using the integer linear program and transport cycle time optimization. After obtaining all of the costs, consumed time and the current company picture, a total of three evaluations were done and are described below in settings. Setting I: The current company picture data was calculated as a comparative subsidy following the racionalization and optimization stages that are more time-consuming in the transport cycle. Setting II: This evaluation was done in terms of linear programation use, together with the loading and unloading waiting in line time racionalization. Setting III: In this evaluation, besides the linear programation use and waiting in line time racionalization, it was simultaneously used a time optimization and a foster transport speed. The acquired results were very meaningful, while the racionalization and optimization happened, the trucks rate and total cost successively decreased, resulting in better vehicles performance, and consequently, an increase in the gross and net drivers’ income. Even though there was a costs decrease and an outsiders’ income increase, wich was not enough to pay their total costs, that is, only the variable ones were totally paid and part of the outsiders’ fixed cost.

This paper establishes concepts and basic aspects of biological invasions, some examples of introductions and impacts. These data are applied to the grasslands suffering pine invasions from forest plantations in the eastern region of Paraná state, in the South of Brazil, between 790 and 1070 meters above sea level. The description of degradation processes by Pinus elliottii Engelm. and P. taeda L. invasions is linked to forms of land use and occupation in the region, based on annual burning for traditional agriculture and extensive grazing systems. Recommendations cover necessary improvements in the management of forest plantations with exotic species, considering factors such as relief, wind direction and plantation design.

This work had as objective to develop an Inventory System for native rubber tree areas. The Simple Random Sampling (SRS) was applied in two stages: the setting, in the first, and the rubber trees tracks, in the second stage. Number of rubber trees per track (N), basal area of the rubber trees track (G) and volume of the stem portion explored (V) were the parameters estimated. A post-stratification was become fulfilled, considering itself center tracks and river side tracks, applying itself it Stratified Random Sampling (STRS). It was compared SRS with the STRS, on the basis of the relative efficiency. The results showed the following estimates for the stratified means: N=100; G=19,00 m2, V = 62,8 m3. It was concluded that the STRS showed more efficient than the SRS to estimate the analyzed variables. It is considered that an Inventory System for native rubber tree areas must match: information of a census of the settings; a process of Stratified Random Sampling; and a sampling method whose unit of sample is the rubber tree track.
