This research studied the standard procedure developed for crop seeds to examine the biochemical processes in accelerated aging seeds (kept for 96 hours at 42oC and 100% RH) and stored seeds (from 5, 10 and 15 years) using isoenzyme electrophoresis and peroxidase activity by colorimetric assay. There was significant decrease (z-test) in the vigor of accelerated aging seeds (54,9%) when compared to the stored ones (97,25%, 95,22% and 89,25%).The peroxidase (PER, EC 1.11.1.7) activity was low, however there was na increase in activity with seed aging. There was a simultaneous increase in both malate dehidrogenase (MDH, EC 1.1.1.37) and esterase (EST, EC 3.1.1.1) activities. The results fllowed the in crease in the seeds storage period of time and of the stress which occurs due to the temperature and humidity conditions utilized in accelerated aging.

Spathelf, Peter; Seling, Irene
A brief historical overview shows the mainstream development pattern in German silviculture and outlines the adjacent role of seminatural (naturally-oriented) silviculture. The rationale for seminatural silviculture is discussed with reference to its ecological and economical aspects. Elements of seminatural silviculture of the Baden-Württemberg-concept are introduced. This concept is not purely a preservation strategy, but recognizes the importance of timber production. Some aspects of selection forest, which is a special case of uneven-aged forest with a long tradition in Southwest Germany, are discussed. As there are still a lot of even-aged (pure) forests in Southwest Germany, transformation strategies towards uneven-aged mixed forests are shown with the aid of some examples. Criteria and indicators for seminatural silviculture which have to be developed on a regional or local scale, can be used as a basis for establishing a certification process for Southwest German forests. Seminatural silviculture is suited as a rational and intergrating silvicultural system to fulfill future requirements on forests in a dynamically changing world.
2000-01-01T00:00:00ZCrescimento de cinco espécies de eucalipto submetidas a déficit hídrico em dois níveis de fósforoGonçalves, Maria RosaPassos, Carlos Alberto Moraeshttp://hdl.handle.net/123456789/121272015-03-03T18:15:18Z2000-01-01T00:00:00ZCrescimento de cinco espécies de eucalipto submetidas a déficit hídrico em dois níveis de fósforo; Growth of five species of eucalypts subjected to the water defcit in two level of phosphorus
Gonçalves, Maria Rosa; Passos, Carlos Alberto Moraes
A partição de fotoassimilados e a concentração de nutrientes mostraram que a influência das condições do meio na alocação de assimilados e do conteúdo de nutrientes depende da espécie em consideração e que, aparentemente, E. cloeziana e E. camaldulensis foram, respectivamente, as espécies menos e mais adaptadas à seca.; The effects of the water and nutrients deficits were about the growth, nutrients accumulate and the assimilate partition, in five eucalyptus species (Eucalyptus pellita F. Muell; E. camaldulensis Dehn, E. citriodora Hook, E. cloeziana F. Muell and E. urophylla St. Blake),cultivated in glasshouse grown were characterized. Plants with 155 days of age, grown in tubes of PVC, with moisture of soil near field capacity, and two level of phosphorus in the soil (30 and 300 mg/l), were submitted to the water deficit by 65 days. Afterwards, the plants were shared, weighted and put in forced ventilation until constant weight. Chemical analyses of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium in the different organs of the plant were corried out. The results demonstrated the occurrence of significant differences among species, phosphorus doses and water deficit with relationship to the assimilate distribution and accumulation of nutrients in the different organs of the plant. Under water deficit and smaller phosphorus level E. camaldulensis showed larger increase in the relationship root / aerial part and smaller reduction in the production of total dry matter. E. cloeziana presented the largest reduction in the production of dry matter. All the growth parameters decreased with the water and nutricional deficit. The assimilate partition and the concentration of nutrients showed that the influence of the conditions of the environment in the allocation of assimilated and of the content of nutrients depends on the species in consideration and that, apparenthy, E. cloeziana and E. camaldulensis were, respectively, the species less and more adapted to the drought.

Os resultados evidenciaram, para as propriedades estudadas, a existência de diferenças significativas entre as posições.; In this study, six trees from a 30 year slash pine stand were harvested. The stumps were converted into 2,5 m logs and the two first were processed into pith centered cants. After air- seasoning, the cants were transformed into small clear static bending specimens according to ASTM D143-93 (1995). Samples were taken near the pith and the bark. Bending stiffness (MOE) and strength (MOR) and basic density measured at 12% moisture content were related to the number of growth rings and percentage summer wood determined at every specimen cross-section. Significant differences were found between radial positions. In general, larger increase in properties of the juvenal wood as a function of the increase of the growth rings and percent summer wood were observed.
